OCBC Cycle 2017 Rules and Regulations

Updated as of September 2017

General

      1. OCBC Cycle 2017 (“Event”) is owned by Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited (the “Event Owner”), who is also the Title Sponsor, and organised by PICH Event Management Pte Ltd (“the Event Organiser”) in accordance with these rules and regulations, applicable to participants, which can be found at www.ocbccycle.com (“the Official Website”).

 

      1. By submitting the application to participate in the Event, the person named in the online form (“the Participant”) confirms his/her agreement and acceptance to abide by these rules and regulations.

 

      1. By submitting the application, the Participant also gives the Event Organiser, the Event Owner and the relevant business partners and agents permission to collect, use and disclose his/her personal data for purposes reasonably required for the conduct and promotion of the Event and future events similar to OCBC Cycle 2017. The purposes for which the Event Owner will use the personal data are set out in a Data Protection Policy, which is accessible at http://www.ocbc.com/policies or available on request and which the participant will have read and understood.

 

      1. Registration for the Event is confirmed upon payment of the relevant registration fee and issuance of a registration number by the Event Organiser.

 

      1. The Event Owner reserves the right to use any photographs, motion pictures, images, recordings, or any other record of the Event and its Participants for any commercial advertising and other promotional purposes linked to the Event or any future events.

 

      1. The Participant agrees to: (i) provide true, accurate, current and complete information about himself/herself in the registration form (“the Registration Data”) and (ii) maintain and promptly update the Registration Data to ensure that it is true, accurate, current and complete. The Event Owner and/or the Event Organiser may contact the Participant from time to time by email and/or SMS. The Participant agrees to receive notices in connection with the Event primarily through email.

 

      1. After registration, there will be no refund of any registration fees to any Participant who does not in due course take part in the Event, for any reason whatsoever. Registration is also strictly non-transferrable.

 

      1. The Event Owner and the Event Organiser reserves the right to modify any of these rules and regulations from time to time as it deems fit. If there is ambiguity in any of these provisions, the Event Organiser shall be the sole authority to interpret them – and in so doing, it may take into account the interests of all affected Participants. Participants will be notified of any amendments to these rules and regulations on the Official Website.

 

      1. The Participant acknowledges that the Event Owner does not assume any operational role in connection with the organization of the Event. As such, the Participant agrees that the Event Owner shall not be held liable for any loss, damage, personal injury or death in connection with the Event.

 

      1. To the greatest extent permitted by the law, the Event Organiser shall not be held liable for any loss, damage, personal injury or death in connection with the Event.

 

      1. The Event Owner and Event Organiser reserves the right to cancel or change any details of the Event or any component of it at any time without prior notice to Participants. Every reasonable effort will be made to inform Participants of changes prior to the date of the Event. If the Event or any component of it is cancelled, there will be no refund of registration fees paid. The Event Organiser shall not be liable for any consequential loss or inconvenience.

Safety and Medical

      1. The Event Organiser reserves the right, at any time and without prior notice to Participants, to amend the cycling routes for the Event as it deems fit for the safety of the Participants. In such cases, every reasonable effort will be made to inform Participants prior to the date of the Event. The Event Organiser shall not be liable for any loss or inconvenience consequential to such changes.

 

      1. Participants must not:
        1. Ride without a cycling helmet;
        2. Ride dangerously or negligently;
        3. Wear any mobile music device while riding;
        4. Use hand-held cameras or telephones while riding;
        5. Ride with Aero helmet; or
        6. Ride with their pets

 

      1. For the safety of Participants, the following bicycles are not allowed:
        1. Bicycles with Disc Wheels/ Rim Covers;
        2. Bicycles with Aero or Extension Bars;
        3. Bicycles with fixed wheels or fixed gears;
        4. Bicycles with Child Seat (no pillion in any manner);
        5. Specialist Time Trial Bicycles;
        6. Motorised Bicycles;
        7. Unicycles;
        8. Scooters;
        9. Trailer Bicycles;
        10. Recumbent Bicycles;
        11. Trikes;
        12. Hand Cycles; and
        13. Tandem Bicycles

 

      1. All bicycles, regardless of the categories, must be properly fitted with two brakes. Single-gear bicycles may not be suitable for long-distance cycling. Using these bicycles to ride in OCBC Cycle may prove to be challenging on some parts of the route (for example, cycling uphill). Please note that you are not allowed to abandon your bicycles along the cycling route as this can be a safety hazard to others.

 

      1. Tandem bicycles and Hand Cycles may be allowed for physically-challenged participants. Participants should seek prior approval from the Event Organiser for using such bicycles by writing in to enquiry@ocbccycle.com. All such requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and the Event Organiser will respond within three to five working days. The Event Organiser reserves the right to decline any such requests at its sole discretion without assigning any reason.

 

      1. Participants who attend the Event with unapproved bicycles will be prohibited from participating in the Event.

 

      1. Participants will not be allowed to change their allocated start pens, which will be assigned based on the estimated times of completion indicated during registration.

 

      1. Start pen opening times:
        1. Mighty Savers® Kids & Family Rides – thirty minutes before their respective flag off times
        2. The Sportive Ride – one hour before the first wave flag off time
        3. The Straits Times Ride – one hour before the first wave flag off time

 

      1. All Participants must follow the designated routes and abide by the instructions given by the security, traffic management and Event officials throughout the Event.

 

      1. For safety reasons, if Event officials decide that Participants are unlikely to complete their ride within the stipulated duration, Event officials will divert them to designated diversion points along the route. Participation medals will still be issued to such affected Participants. However, Participants in The Sportive Ride will not be credited with a finishing time.

 

      1. Participants must furnish details on the reverse side of the assigned Event bib accurately and attach the Event bib to the back of their cycling jersey/ T-shirt. If there is an emergency, the Event Organiser and medical personnel will refer to the form to contact the next-of-kin identified on the Event bib.

 

      1. Participants not wearing the Event bib will not be allowed to participate in the Event.

 

      1. For safety reasons, Participants have to be equipped with proper footwear on Event Day. Participants are not allowed to be in slippers, crocs and other footwear deemed unsuitable by The Organiser during their ride.

 

      1. Participants are encouraged to consult their medical practitioners prior to registration and before participating in the Event.

 

      1. If there is an emergency, medical personnel reserve the right:
        1. to remove any Participants if they decide that he/she is unable to continue his/her ride; and
        2. to send any casualties to the nearest recommended hospital.

 

      1. Participants can visit www.ocbccycle.com/#safety for more details on other safety measures and tips for the Event.

 

      1. All participants (except for the category of OCBC Cycle Speedway Championship) between the age of two to 82 will be covered under a basic complimentary Personal Accident insurance sponsored by The Great Eastern Life Assurance Co Ltd. OCBC Cycle Speedway Championship participants between the age of 19 to 65 will be covered under the same basic complimentary Personal Accident insurance. Insurance coverage shall commence from the official start of the ride till the end of the ride. Each participant will be provided with a policy limit of the following:
        – S$5,000 for accidental death
        – S$5,000 for permanent disability
        – S$500 for medical expenses (Excess: S$50.00 any one accident, maximum S$1,000 for the insured period).

Subject to The Overseas Assurance Corporation Ltd (OAC) standard policy terms, conditions and exceptions.

 

All payouts will be based on assessments and approvals of duly completed claim forms together with supporting documents within 14 days of the accident occurrence.

This Insurance plan is underwritten by The Overseas Assurance Corporation Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Great Eastern Holdings Ltd and a member of the OCBC Group.

Event Categories and Approved Equipment

      1. Participants can sign up for the following Event categories:
        1. Mighty Savers® Kids Ride (2 – 3 years old)
        2. Mighty Savers® Kids Ride (4 – 5 years old)
        3. Mighty Savers® Kids Ride (5 – 7 years old)
        4. Mighty Savers® Kids Ride (8 – 9 years old)
        5. Mighty Savers® Kids Ride (10 – 12 years old)
        6. Mighty Savers® Family Ride (5 – 8 years old)
        7. Mighty Savers® Family Ride (9 – 12 years old)
        8. The Straits Times Ride
        9. The Sportive Ride
        10. OCBC Cycle Speedway Club Championship
        11. OCBC Cycle Speedway Corporate Championship

 

      1. The Participant’s age will be deemed to be his/her age on the day he/she participates in the Event, except for the category of OCBC Cycle Speedway Corporate Championship, OCBC Cycle Speedway Club Championship and the OCBC Cycle Speedway S.E.A Championship.

 

      1. The following applies to The Mighty Savers® Kids Ride (2 – 3 years old) and Mighty Savers® Kids Ride (4 – 5 years old):
        1. Children in these categories will ride for 100m.
        2. Only one parent or legal guardian of the Participant is allowed to accompany him/her on the designated path along the route.
        3. Only tricycles, bicycles with training wheels and balance bikes are allowed.
        4. Two-wheeled bikes are not allowed.

 

      1. The following applies to Mighty Savers® Kids Ride (5 – 7 years old), Mighty Savers® Kids Ride (8 – 9 years old) and Mighty Savers® Family Ride (5 – 8 years old):
        1. Children in these categories will ride for 20 minutes.
        2. For Mighty Savers® Family Ride (5 – 8 years old), only one parent or legal guardian of the Participant is allowed to accompany him/her on a different bicycle. The parent or legal guardian must be at least 21 years of age.
        3. For safety reasons, only road bikes, mountain bikes, folding bikes, single speed bikes with freewheel and two brakes, touring bikes, hybrid bikes, mini velo bikes and BMX bikes are allowed.       1. The following applies to Mighty Savers® Kids Ride (10 – 12 years old) and The Mighty Savers® Family Ride (9 – 12 years old):
        1. Children in these categories will ride for 30 minutes.
        2. For The Mighty Savers® Family Ride (9 – 12 years old), only one parent or legal guardian of the Participant is allowed to accompany him/her on a different bicycle. The parent or legal guardian must be at least 21 years of age.
        3. For safety reasons, only road bikes, mountain bikes, folding bikes, single speed bikes with freewheel and two brakes, touring bikes, hybrid bikes, mini velo bikes and BMX bikes are allowed. All such bikes must also come with two brakes.

 

      1. The following applies to The Straits Times Ride:
        1. Participants, who must be 13 years of age and above, will ride for an approximate distance of 23km.
        2. For safety reasons, only road bikes, mountain bikes, folding bikes, single speed bikes with freewheel and two brakes, touring bikes, hybrid bikes, mini velo bikes and BMX bikes are allowed. All such bikes must also come with two brakes.
        3. The distance for The Straits Times Ride stated on the Official Website is only tentative. The distance and route will be finalised only after regulatory approval is obtained.

 

      1. The following applies to The Sportive Ride:
        1. Participants, who must be 16 years of age and above, will ride for an approximate distance of 42km.
        2. For safety reasons, only road bikes, mountain bikes, folding bikes, single speed bikes with freewheel and two brakes, touring bikes, hybrid bikes, mini velo bikes and BMX bikes are allowed. All such bikes must also come with two brakes.
        3. The distance for The Sportive Ride stated on the Official Website is only tentative. The distance and route will be finalised only after obtaining regulatory approval.

 

      1. The following applies to the OCBC Cycle Speedway Club Championship:
        1. Teams can indicate their interest using the reservation form.
        2. Teams will be given a URL to make payment after the Event Organiser has reviewed and accepted their reservations.
        3. Team reservations are confirmed only after the Event Organiser receives payment.
        4. Teams will be given a code to register; after which, all registration must be completed by 13 October 2017.
        5. Places are confirmed only after the members have completed their registration and the confirmation slip is sent to the email addresses provided during registration.
        6. Each team must comprise of five participants who are 19 years of age and above.
        7. Each participant’s age will be deemed to be his/her age on the year he/she participates in the Event.
        8. Mixed team of female and male riders is allowed.
        9. There is only one “open” category, with no separate winners/categories awards for mixed team, age group, etc.
        10. Each team has four riders and one reserve rider.
        11. A maximum of 15 teams is allowed for this category.
        12. Each club can only register a maximum of two teams.
        13. Each participant must have a valid race license issued by Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) or Singapore Cycling Federation (Tel: 6784 6621, website: www.cycling.org.sg) on the day of the event.
        14. The team will ride 10 laps on a 1km course where the first two riders will complete five laps in total before handing over to the next two riders who will ride the remaining five laps.
        15. The 15 teams will be divided into three Qualifying Rounds.
        16. The top two teams in each group will proceed to the Semi-Finals together with the next 2 teams with the best timings ranked below the 1st and 2nd placed teams (Best Chaser Team).
        17. The top two teams in each Semi-Final will proceed to the Finals together with the next team with the best timing ranked below the 1st and 2nd placed teams (Best Chaser Team).
        18. The time taken by a team to complete the course is calculated based on the time taken between the start time as announced by the race official and the last rider of the 2nd pair to cross the finish line.
        19. The ranking of the teams in each round is based on the time taken by the teams to complete the course
        20. Following the point system developed by The Singapore Cycling Federation (SCF), points will be awarded to all riders in the top 6 teams for both OCBC Cycle Speedway Club & SEA Championships. For more information, please visit http://cycling.org.sg/2016-season/.
        21. The following prizes will be given away
          1. Champion – S$800; First Runner-up – S$600 and Second Runner-up – S$400
          2. The Top eight teams will get to ride exclusively in the Champions Wave of The Sportive Ride on 19 November 2017 with the national riders who competed in the OCBC Cycle S.E.A Championships.
        22. For safety reasons, only road bikes with two working brakes are allowed. Disc brakes are not allowed.

 

      1. The following applies to the OCBC Cycle Speedway Corporate Championship:
        1. Companies can register their teams using the registration form.
        2. Companies will be given a unique code and URL to register their team members by 15 September 2017 after payment is made.
        3. Places are confirmed only after the confirmation slip is sent to the email addresses provided during registration.
        4. Each team must comprise of five participants who are 19 years of age and above.
        5. Each participant’s age will be deemed to be his/her age on the year he/she participates in the Event.
        6. Mixed team of female and male riders is allowed.
        7. There is only one “open” category, with no separate winners/categories awards for mixed team, age group, etc.
        8. Each team has four riders and one reserve rider.
        9. All riders must be employees from the same company.
        10. All riders can only represent one team.
        11. In the event of elimination, riders are not allowed to ride on behalf of another team from the same company.
        12. All riders must be pre-registered and no replacement is allowed.
        13. Each company can only register a maximum of two teams for the OCBC Cycle Speedway Corporate Championship. The third team onwards will be placed on a waiting list.
        14. The race permits up to 16 teams.
        15. Stage 1: Four groups of 3 teams each will compete in this stage. The top 2 teams of each group will proceed to Stage 2.
        16. Stage 2: Two groups of 4 teams each will compete in this stage. The top 2 teams of each group, along with the Best Chaser Team across both groups, will proceed to the Final Stage.
        17. Final Stage: 5 teams will compete in this stage. The top 4 teams will proceed to compete in the Championship Final on 18 November 2017 along Stadium Drive.
        18. Each team will ride 20 laps on a 400m course where the first pair must complete 10 laps before the next pair of cyclists takes off to ride the remaining 10 laps.
        19. The time taken by a team to complete the course is calculated based on the time elapsed between the start time and the last rider of the 2nd pair to cross the finish line.
        20. The ranking of the teams in each Stage is based on the time taken by the teams to complete the course i.e. the team that takes the shortest time is the winner of the Stage.
        21. Prizes:
          1. Final Stage: The top 4 teams of the Final Stage will receive vouchers and proceed to compete in the Championship Final on 18 November 2017. These 4 teams will also get to ride exclusively in the Champions Wave of The Sportive Ride on 19 November 2017 with the national riders who raced in the OCBC Cycle Speedway S.E.A Championship as well as the top 8 teams of the OCBC Cycle Speedway Club Championship.
          2. Championship Final: Champion – S$400 and Champions’ jerseys; First Runner-up – S$300 and Second Runner-up – S$200.
        22. For safety reasons, only mountain bikes and road bikes with two working brakes are allowed.

     

        1. The distance and duration for each of the Event categories are approximate. The Event Organiser reserves the right to change the distance and duration for any of the categories should circumstance demands it.

     

        1. If you are a Participant below 21 years of age, and have completed the indemnity form found on the Official Website, you are deemed to have obtained consent from your parent or legal guardian to participate in the Event.

     

        1. Once Participants complete their registration for the Event, they are strictly not allowed to:
          1. transfer or sell their Event bibs;
          2. change their event categories; or
          3. change the size for their Event apparel

     

        1. Participants who successfully complete the ride in their relevant Event category will be awarded:
          1. A medal upon the presentation of their Event bib to the respective officials on Event day.
          2. An e-certificate of participation, which will be made available on the Event website within four weeks of the date of the Event.

The Corporate Bike Ride and The Business Times Cycle of Hope Corporate Bike Ride Packages

      1. Companies can indicate their interest using the reservation form from 10 July to 29 September 2017.

 

      1. Places are confirmed only after the Event Organiser receives payment and after the confirmation slip is sent to the email address provided during registration.

 

      1. Companies must submit all registration fees and donations within five working days of receiving the e-invoice. Cheques must be mailed to:

      1. Companies’ employees can choose to sign up for either The Straits Times Ride or The Sportive Ride, subject to the number of places stated in the packages that their companies have purchased.

 

      1. For companies that register for The Corporate Bike Ride Package:
        1. No event apparel will be given to the employees so as to encourage them to wear their company-branded apparel; and
        2. These companies are only eligible to compete for the Longest Distance Award.

 

      1. For companies that register for The Business Times Cycle of Hope Corporate Bike Ride package:
        1. Event apparel will be given to the employees; and
        2. These companies are eligible to compete for the Longest Distance Award and the Largest Donor Award.

 

      1. Longest Distance Award:
        1. The company whose participants accumulate the longest distance, regardless of the package signed up for, wins the Longest Distance Award.
        2. Distances of disqualified participants will not be taken into account.

 

      1. Largest Donor Award:
        1. The company that makes the biggest donation, based either on the number of The Business Times Cycle of Hope Packages purchased, or online or offline donations collected, wins the Largest Donor Award.

 

      1. Individual registration by the companies’ employees begins on 10 July 2017. All registrations must be completed by 13 October 2017. Incomplete registrations after 13 October 2017 will be cancelled.

 

      1. Registration by the companies’ employees cannot be done at the launch of OCBC Cycle on 7 – 8 July 2017 at orchardgateway, and accordingly these employees are not eligible for the special gifts.

 

      1. Once the companies’ employees complete their registration for the Event, they are strictly not allowed to:
        1. transfer or sell their Event bibs
        2. change their event categories
        3. change the size for their Event apparel (if applicable)

 

      1. There will not be any discount applicable for The Corporate Bike Ride and The Business Times Cycle of Hope Corporate Bike Ride packages.

Terms and Conditions

      1. OCBC card members will be entitled to a 10% discount off the relevant full rate registration fees.

 

      1. All participants of the non-competitive rides of OCBC Cycle 2015 and 2016 enjoy a S$3 Loyal Cyclist discount off the online registration fees of any non-competitive ride category and of as many non-competitive ride categories. You will enjoy another 10% discount when payment is made with an OCBC credit/debit card. The Loyal Cyclist Discount is applied automatically when you sign up online. However, there are 2 situations where you need to write to us at enquiry@ocbccycle.com for a promotional code to enjoy the Loyal Cyclist Discount:
        1. If you had signed up with a child previously in the Mighty Savers® Family Ride and would now like to sign up for The Straits Times Ride or The Sportive Ride this year.
        2. If you had signed up with a child previously in the Mighty Savers® Family Ride and would now like to take part again in the Mighty Savers® Family Ride with a different child.

 

      1. Discounts apply only to online registrations via the Official Website.

 

      1. All fees are quoted in Singapore Dollars.

 

      1. There will be no extension of any registration promotion.
