Ride categories

*Important information for cyclists of all categories:

Early Start: The reporting time for cyclists is 1 hour before the official flag-off time for each category. Based on the learnings derived from previous mass sporting events, the 1 hour is needed for participants to clear security checks and prepare themselves before the event, such as visiting the washroom, finding the way to the starting line, familiarising themselves with the event site, making minor equipment repairs, and taking selfies and pictures along the way. This preparation time has allowed sporting events to start on time. Additional security checks could result in a longer waiting time, but the crew will work towards maintaining a waiting time of no more than 1-hour.

Waiting Time between Flag-Offs: To prevent instances of over-crowding, cyclists will be separated into different groups which are flagged off at staggered intervals. The waiting time between each interval allows cyclists in the earlier group to ride off for a certain distance first, preventing the next group of cyclists from merging into the earlier group. This reduces over-crowding, which can endanger the cyclists.

Loyal Cyclist Discount: If you took part in the non-competitive rides of OCBC Cycle 2015 to 2017, enjoy a Loyal Cyclist Discount of S$3 off the online registration fee in any non-competitive ride category and in as many non-competitive ride categories. COMPETITIVE

OCBC Cycle Speedway Club Championship

The OCBC Cycle Speedway Club Championship is a thrilling ride – a first in Singapore and possibly in the world – since OCBC Cycle 2015. It is catered exclusively for Singapore cycling clubs.

As this is a highly technical and fast race, for the safety of all riders, the clubs are to ensure that cyclists who are chosen to race possess the ability and skills required to compete proficiently.

The 4 cyclists in each team will ride a total of 10 laps in pairs around a flat 1-kilometre course along Stadium Drive. Two cyclists will first ride 5 laps before passing their wristbands to the other 2 cyclists to ride the remaining 5 laps. There will be 3 rounds of races – the qualifying round, the semi-finals and the finals. In the qualifying round, the top 2 teams from each group will proceed to the semi-finals, making a total of 6 teams. We will select, from the remaining teams across the groups, 2 teams with the best timings to also move on to the semi-finals to compete. There will therefore be a total of 8 teams racing in the semi-finals. The 8 teams will be split into 2 groups – the top 2 teams in each group will proceed to the finals. Similarly, a team with the best timing among the remaining teams in both groups will move on to race in the finals. Five teams will be competing to be crowned the OCBC Cycle Speedway Club Champion for the year.

OCBC Cycle Corporate Chase

A new category for companies, the OCBC Cycle Corporate Chase is a great team bonding event! Companies can sign up with a team of 4 employees to ride against other corporate teams in the first starting wave of The Sportive Ride. Flagging off ahead of the rest of the public field at The Sportive Ride, the clear road ahead will allow the competitive corporate riders to test their cycling mantle on the tarmac.

Accepting a total of 30 corporate teams, each company will be able to send up to two participating teams in the OCBC Cycle Corporate Chase. Subsequent teams will be placed on the waiting list and entry for waiting teams will be dependent on availability. The corporate team will be ranked according to their combined total net time over the course of 42km in The Sportive Ride. The first-placed team will be crowned the OCBC Cycle Corporate Chase Champion with a trophy, a champion T-shirt for each rider of the team and S$400 prize money. The second and third placed companies will also receive prize money of S$300 and S$200 respectively.
